چکیده

We present an x-ray study of doped charge density waves systems. When a 2k f-charge density wave is strongly pinned to impurities, an interference effect gives rise to an asymmetry between the intensities of the +2k f and −2k f satellite reflections. Moreover, profile asymmetry of the satellite reflections indicates the existence of Friedel oscillations (FOs) around the defects. We have studied these effects in V-and W-doped blue bronzes. A syncrotron radiation study of the V-doped blue bronze clearly reveals the presence of FO around the V atoms.

X-ray Charge-Dens Study of 5-Chloro-8-hydroxy-6-methyloaphthalene-l.4-dione: A Hydroxynaphthoquinone Derivative

The X-ray charge density analysis of a hydroxynaphthoquinnne derivative was obtained by multipolar Hansen-Coppens formalism refinement through high resolution X-ray diffraction data at 100(1) K. The molecularproperties of the title compound resulted from the combined experimental and the quantum theory of atoms inmolecules (QTAIM) studies. The topological properties of the covalent bonds and of...

Direct observation of counterion organization in F-actin polyelectrolyte bundles.

Attractions between like-charged polyelectrolytes have been observed in a variety of systems (W.M. Gelbart, R.F. Bruinsma, P.A. Pincus, V.A. Parsegian, Phys. Today 53, September issue, 38 (2000)). Recent biological examples include DNA, filamentous viruses, and F-actin. Theoretical investigations on idealized systems indicate that counterion correlations play a central role, but no experiments ...

Structure and dynamics of condensed multivalent ions within polyelectrolyte bundles: a combined x-ray diffraction and solid-state NMR study

Like-charged polyelectrolytes can attract and condense into compact ordered states via counterion-mediated interactions (Gelbart et al 2000 Phys. Today 53 38–44). Recent examples include DNA toroids and F-actin bundles. We have investigated the structure and dynamics of condensed divalent ions within F-actin polyelectrolyte bundles. Using synchrotron x-ray diffraction, the structural organizati...

The microscopic structure of charge density waves in underdoped YBa2Cu3O6.54 revealed by X-ray diffraction.

Charge density wave (CDW) order appears throughout the underdoped high-temperature cuprate superconductors, but the underlying symmetry breaking and the origin of the CDW remain unclear. We use X-ray diffraction to determine the microscopic structure of the CDWs in an archetypical cuprate YBa2Cu3O6.54 at its superconducting transition temperature ∼ 60 K. We find that the CDWs in this material b...
